Joyce Ann Smith Grubb, 78, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center.
Joyce was born at Camp Blanding, Florida, on July 31, 1945, to the late Weldon Alexander and Lola Jean Slaydon Smith while Weldon was serving in the Army.
Joyce was a graduate of West Davidson High School and earned an Associate Degree from Ashmore Business College. She was a Christian, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Joyce’s accomplishments were many over her time here on earth. She was one of the first female Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors in North Carolina and owner of Southern Services of Lexington, Inc. She was a very talented artist and quilter, often painting and sewing until the early morning hours. She was an accomplished baker and wedding cake creator where she worked side by side with her sisters and sister in laws to supply new brides with lovely wedding experiences.
Joyce loved traveling to many places either for work or with family. She has been to most of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. She was also fortunate enough to travel to many countries outside of the US with her husband, work friends, children and grandchildren. The desire to travel and experience new places never left her.
Her inexhaustible work ethic led her to not only supporting, but ultimately leading Southern Services for many years. Through her work, community support and family life, Joyce has been a mentor, teacher and emotional coach to so many that she met. Always encouraging those around her to go and accomplish their dreams and ideas.
Joyce also played many roles for her family and the community that she loved. She was a member of Reeds Baptist Church, the Fern and Foliage Garden Club as well as other civic organizations over the years.
Above all, she loved her family and especially loved her husband, Foy who has stood by her side since their Freshmen year of High School
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Blain Grubb and a sister, Myra Smith Leonard.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of almost 60 years, Foy B. Grubb; one daughter, Jennifer Rosecrans (Ben); two brothers, Junie Smith (Reta) and David W. Smith (Kim); two sisters, Laura Hemphill (Rick) and Lesia Reudelhuber (George); seven grandchildren, Alexander Grubb, Mackenzie Hall Luther, Keaton Turrentine, Salem Turrentine, Victoria Rosecrans, Caleb Rosecrans, and Jacob Rosecrans; one great granddaughter, Wrenley Rosecrans; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Bean and a host of other extended family members.
The family will have a Memorial Gathering, Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4 to 8 pm at Reeds Baptist Church in the Family Life Center, 180 Reeds Baptist Church Rd., Lexington, NC.
