Joseph Myers Obituary

Joseph Druid Myers went to his heavenly home on Friday, June 10, 2022.  He passed away at his home after spending a busy week on the farm with his family. Druid was passionate about a lot of things, but caring for his family was at the top of his list. He was a devoted son, husband, and father and a true patriarch and hero to those he leaves behind.

Druid was born on November 8, 1937 in Lexington, North Carolina.  He was the second child of the late Joseph Graham and Ruth Beck Myers.  As a boy, he spent his days on the farm, working alongside his dad and grandfathers learning the unwritten rules of when to break ground for planting, how to repair everything, and what it means to live a life full of purpose in the service of Jesus Christ. Although he never graduated from high school, he was a bright man with an incredible work ethic and a quick wit.

On July 27, 1957, Druid married his one true love, Juanita Weaver Myers.  Together, they built a beautiful life, home, and family.  He would often reflect on how his life would have been different had he not seen Juanita standing outside the movie theater on that fateful evening 65 years ago. At times, Druid worked three jobs to provide for his wife and children, Terry Druid (and special friend, Kathy) and Vicky Lynn (married to Tony Rickard). He was their guiding light and rock upon which they could always lean.  Druid was a faithful member at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church and he proudly retired from Burlington Industries after 45 years of service as a “fixer.”

Druid loved to spend time raising crops on the same farm that he’d helped his father tend as a boy.  He enjoyed fishing vacations on Ocracoke Island, boisterous suppers at home with all his family in attendance, evening rides around the farm, and quiet moments spent reading his Bible. He was well-pleased in his grandchildren: Joseph Carlton Rickard (Angel), Jodi Lynn Rickard (special friend, Jamie), Tiffni Myers Berrier (Brandon),  and Joshua Druid Myers (Hannah) and loved nothing more than looking out his back door and surveying their accomplishments. He found immeasureable joy in the moments spent with them and his great-grandchildren: Jerzie Lynn Braley, Joey Marie Braley, Levi Charles Berrier, Jaedyn Tony Hartsell, Emli Ruth Berrier, Ruger Druid Myers, Abigail Grace Rickard, Barrett Guthrie Myers, and Remi Zella Myers.

Druid never lived farther than a quarter mile from where he was born, but his life and legacy touched so many.  He was preceeded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Rachels; brother, Stuart Myers; and his beloved daughter-in-law, Donna Lanning Myers.  What a reunion they must be having in Heaven! Druid is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and brother, Harold Myers (Betty Ruth) of Lexington, NC.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 10am to 11am at Forest Hill Memorial Park Chapel with a Celebration of Life service to be held 11am following the visitation, with Reverand Frankie Matthews and Dr. Jeremy Benbrooks officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Druid’s honor to Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
