Jimmy Darrell Taylor, 78, of Lexington NC, passed away November 30, 2024 at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center Hospice Care in Salisbury.
Darrell was born on November 14, 1946, in Davidson County, NC, to the late Chester Taylor and Sara Louvinia Snider Taylor.
He served in the United States Army from 1964-1967. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired from the Forsyth County Sheriff Department as a Detention Officer.
Darrell loved coaching ball, fishing, working in his workshop and dancing with his wife. He also enjoyed singing in a gospel group, called Saved By His Grace, with his wife, Judy Taylor, and friends, Gail Varner and Kathy Sain. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVATS Post 13, and the Davidson County Honor Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Michael Taylor, Scott Gainey; and a brother, Wade Taylor.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy King Taylor; his children, Dwayne Taylor (Tami), Leann Hunt (Tony), Angela Sams (John), Dale Gainey (Vanessa); a sister, Melinda Martin; numerous grandchildren including, Justin Sams (Elizabeth), Jessica McDaniel, Kaitlyn Kepley (Matt); two great-grandchildren, Colton McDaniel and Chase Kepley; a special niece, Ruby Wagner (Bill), who cared for him and whom he loved very much; numerous other nieces and nephews, and his dog, Petey.
The family will have a Celebration of Life service on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 2:00pm at Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
Darrell will be laid to rest at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 10:00am will full military honors.
