Elmer “Odell” McMahan, 86, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 1, 2018, from Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A native of Davidson County, he was born June 22, 1932, the son of the late Elmer Leon McMahan and Nona Jane Myers McMahan. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Amy, a brother, Myers, and two grandsons.
Odell was a graduate of Reeds High School, Class of 1950. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired as a machine operator with R.J. Reynolds after 20 years of service. He was a member of Currytown Baptist Church.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 64 years, Iva Perrell McMahan; one son, Christopher Odell McMahan (Lisa) of Lexington; three daughters: Patrina Mallard (David) and Mina Furr (Sparky), both of Lexington, and Penny Kavanaugh (Barry) of West End; two sisters, Jane Sink (Leroy) of Salisbury and Joyce Hanes of Lexington; and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, August 3, at Currytown Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the church at 11:00 AM Saturday with the pastor, Dr. Michael McDaniel, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Davidson County Honor Guard.
