Dixie Gay (Payne) McCroskey

Dixie Gay McCroskey, age 74, of Lexington, NC passed away September 13, 2020 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center with her family by her side.

Dixie was born on February 15, 1946 in Tazewell, VA to the late James A. Payne and Gladys Ruth Lester Payne. Most of her adult life was spent in northwest Indiana with her family and friends.

Dixie went to Pocahontas High School and was of the Baptist Faith. She married her high school sweetheart, Willard McCroskey, in Crown Point, IN on March 9, 1965.  She enjoyed being a homemaker and cooking. She was the best Mom and Maw Maw. She will be remembered working on crossword puzzles, singing, being active on Facebook, and adoring her little dog, “Caesar”.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Willard M. McCroskey; a daughter, Melissa Hayes (Timothy) of Thomasville; a son, Willard McCroskey Jr. (Magdalena) of Dyer IN; two sisters, Karen McMahon of Lexington and Candace Jenkins (Donald) of Chambersburg, PA; and two grandchildren, Margaret McCroskey (Joewy) and Kyle McCroskey.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as four brothers and one sister.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
