Charles Blatchley Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Creighton Blatchley Jr., age 93, of Thomasville, N.C. formerly of Wilmington, NC and Madison, CT passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Piedmont Crossing Healthcare located in Thomasville, NC. 

Mr. Blatchley was born on December 5, 1927 in Madison, CT., the son of Charles Creighton Blatchley and Antoinette Blatchley.

Mr. Blatchley worked at Standyne Corporation located in Windsor, CT for thirty five years as an engineer. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass and obtained an Associate degree in engineering. Mr. Blatchley was a Master Sargent in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, during WWII and the Korean Conflict and was a member of St. Coleman’s Catholic Church in Middlefield, CT

He grew up and enjoyed hunting and fishing at the Hammonasset Fishing Association-HFA located in North Madison, CT as well as traveling in his motor home around the United States with his wife, Celia.   He also liked working on Volkswagens and Porsches in his spare time and could fix or build anything.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Antoinette Blatchley.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of seventy-two years, Celia Aivano Blatchley, who he met seventy seven years ago in Durham, CT.   He has one daughter, Carol (John) of Lexington NC, two sons, Charles C. Blatchley III (Megan) of Cary, NC, and Steven A. Blatchley (Mary) of Cheshire, CT., and one brother, George A. Blatchley (Mary Ellen) of Hammond, N.Y. He also has five grandchildren, Tyler Blatchley, Rob Stevens, John Blatchley, Troy Blatchley, Griffin Blatchley and four great-grandchildren.

There are no services scheduled at this time. 

Family requests that memorials in his behalf be made to Leukemia- Lymphoma Society of Charlotte, NC. 

Special thanks to the nursing and administrative staff at Piedmont Crossing for their dedication, caring, and compassionate care of Chuck and his family.
