Alvin Leonard Harris, 88, of Lexington, North Carolina passed away August 15, 2023 at Davidson Health & Rehab Nursing Healthcare.
Mr. Harris was born March 4, 1935 in Elkhorn, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father James E. Harris, his mother Thelma Harris Drummond, a sister, Corzie Hughes, three brothers Jack Harris, Mervin Harris and Sank Snell.
Mr. Harris worked as Superintendent of Parking at Sloan Kettering Hospital. He was of the Baptist faith and was very active in his church. Mr. Harris also served our country in the U.S. Army. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Fieldale, VA. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a Master of Arts (MA) from New York University. Further, he served in broadcasting in New York City in a host of positions including radio and television.
Left to cherish his memory is a sister Mable Hortense Thompson, of Greensboro and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of other family members whom he loved dearly.
The family will have a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, August 24, from 11:00am to 11:30am, at Davie Burial and Cremation Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be immediately following the visitation at 11:30am. Following the funeral service, Mr. Harris will be laid to rest at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury at 1:00pm.
