Alvin Bruce Davis died on December 5, 2021, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. On July 21, 1950, Bruce was born to Benjamin F. and Elizabeth C. Davis in Raleigh. He grew up in a large, close-knit family of five children. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1972 with a degree in Parks and Recreation Administration and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Everyone who met Bruce loved him. He had a sense of humor unmatched by anyone. He could always make a person laugh and brighten someone’s day with his jokes, extraordinary wit, and sarcasm. In addition to his humor, Bruce was a very generous, kind, and patient man. He treated others fairly and with respect, whether a stranger or a lifelong friend.
Bruce was fiercely dedicated to his career. For twenty years, he served as the director of Recreation and Parks for the city of Lexington until his retirement in 2015. During his career, Bruce was instrumental in creating the annual Multi-Cultural Festival; an event held every May that celebrates the diversity of the community's residents. He also revitalized the city’s parks, bringing them into the new century, making them safer and more beneficial for all to enjoy. He loved serving the community and bringing happiness to people of all ages through his work.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents and a brother. Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Amy Livesay (Steve) of Apex, Stephanie Davis of Apex, and Laura Davis (Ian) of Charlotte. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Peyton and Rachel Livesay and Carson Idol, three siblings and several nephews and grandnephews. A private celebration of Bruce’s life will be held per his request.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the United Way, or a charity of the donor's choice.
