Weldon "Harry" Sweeney, Sr., 73, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. He was known to many of his family and friends as “Harry” or “Pops”. He was born October 20, 1944, in Camden, NJ, the son of the late Charles Henry Sweeney, Sr. and the late Mae McClain Sweeney Franz.
Harry held many jobs during his lifetime and retired from a janitorial service. He was often described as “the family comedian” because of his humor and his affection toward his family. Something else he enjoyed was watching wrestling (“rasslin”).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Peters Sweeney; a daughter, Josephine Reynolds; a son, Weldon Harry Sweeney, Jr. a/k/a “Skip”; a granddaughter, Erica Rocha; and two brothers, Charles Henry Sweeney, Jr. and Kenny Sweeney.
His survivors include two sons, Jesse Sweeney (Wanda) and Eric Sweeney (Melissa), and one daughter, Victoria Sweeney (Tim Temple), all of Lexington; one brother, Chip Peters of PA; four sisters: Pat Cohen and Debbie Boggi, both of PA, Linda Pancoast of TN and Lynda Kellener of NJ; plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a gathering of family & friends and time to share memories Monday, June 11, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Davie Burial & Cremation Service, 1403 S. Main St., Lexington.
