Waymann Norris Humphrey, 78, completed his work on this earth and went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2019. Waymann was born in Robeson County, North Carolina, on June 29, 1941 to Arthur Grantham Humphrey and Agnes Prevatte Humphrey. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Humphrey.
Waymann spent much of his life in Fayetteville, NC, where he attended Terry Sanford High School and was the keyboard player for the Modern Knights Variety Band. Waymann obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Campbell College. He retired from Winston Salem / Forsyth County Schools where he taught middle school for more than 22 years. Waymann was a man who loved his family more than life itself. His favorite times were when he was surrounded by his wife, his sons, and his five grandsons. He loved fishing, golfing, and was an avid Duke Basketball fan. For the last 20 years, Waymann lived in Clemmons and was a member at River Oaks Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Renee Norris Humphrey; two sons, Benjamin Norris Humphrey (Aubree) of Clemmons, and Joshua Nicholas Humphrey (Holli) of Lexington; five grandchildren, Grayson, Hampton, Elijah, Zeke, and Lucas; two loving dogs, Simba and Gabby Girl.
No services are scheduled at this time. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to Carolina Cancer Support Services c/o Renee Humphrey, 525 Merrybrook Ct., Clemmons, NC 27012 in lieu of flowers. Proceeds are being raised in partnership with Cancer Services of Forsyth County.
