Robert Nowak Sr Obituary

Robert Joseph Nowak Sr., passed away Monday morning, October 15,  2018, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side. He  was a native of Manhattan, in New York City, New York, born June 11, 1935,  to the late Henry Nowak and Antoinette Martinec. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Antoinette Marie Nowak Dibala and Victoria Catherine Nowak Stasyshyn, and a brother Henry Frank Nowak.

He graduated from Machine and Metal Trade High School in 1953. He graduated from Applachian State University having obtained a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Industrial Management. His career began at Western Electric, and he retired from Lucent Technologies in 1989. Many knew him as a member of a group called the Romeo’s, (retired old men eating out).  He served his church in many capacities, he served on the building committee and a member of the softball team.  He volunteered as an Usher, Director and Teacher of Religious Education.  He was a member of the Young at Heart and the Knights of Columbus 9499 Council.  During his years in the Knights of Columbus he served as the Grand Knight and Financial Secretary.  His years as a 4th Degree Knight, he served as the Faithful Navigator and Faithful Controller.  He also spent time volunteering with the Military of the Purple Heart and Make-A-Wish Foundations.  He was the Master of Ceremonies of many things both in his community, his church, and his family. 

Those left to cherish his sweet precious memories are a wife, Carole Geradine Janos Nowak, of 61 years. Three sons; Robert Nowak Jr. (Dawn), Richard Nowak (Kelly), Raymond Nowak (Shannon). Four daughters; Karla Killian (Timothy), Debra Orden (Roger), Lisa Nowak, Lora Cortez (Craig). Thirteen grandchildren; Kara Bornhorst (Matthew), Kristofer Killian (Nicole), Kendra Evans (Brent), Kameron Killian (Priscilla), Michelle Rooney, Nicole Campbell (Christopher), Caryn Cortez (Javi), Eric  Cortez, Mark Cortez, Justin Nowak, Steven Nowak, David Nowak, Julian Nowak. Nine great grandchildren; Isaac, Lucas, and Emmalyn Bornhorst, Zakariah Hollis and Solomon Killian, Lucy Evans, Benjamin and Evelyn Campbell.

There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm at the Davie Funeral Home Chapel at 416 Valley Rd Mocksville, NC 27028. 

A Mass of Christian Burial, will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11am, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  The Rev. Father Michael Butner will be officiating.
