Mary Lee Langley Stokes, 86, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 7, 2018, from her home while under Hospice care. A native of Davidson County, she was born Mary Lee Langley on April 28, 1932, the daughter of the late Rev. G. R. and Etta Rose Snyder Langley.
She was a graduate of Welcome High School (1951). She graduated from Continental Beauty College in High Point and later became an instructor there. Her primary job was her family. She was a member of Sonlight Missionary Baptist Church and regular attender of Momentum Church and First Assembly of God with her daughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sager "Bill" Stokes (2004); a sister Evelyn Bentley (1951) and an infant sister Etta Mae Langley.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are two daughters, Ann Stokes and Jennifer Stokes-Lowery (Jeffrey Briggs) both of Lexington; she also leaves behind a step- daughter, Debra Nixon (Stewart) of Elizabeth City; four brothers: George Langley (Thelma), Daniel Langley (Rebecca), Onnie Langley (Paula) and Bruce Langley (Gail), all of Lexington; one sister, Margaret Lashley (Gene) of Lexington; five grandchildren: Ashley Cline, Jamey Cline (Tracie), Amber Allen (Ryan), Nathan Wilkes (Ashley) and Jordan Lowery; three step-grandchildren: Nick Nixon (Amy), Jeremy Nixon (Kristin) and Ginger Nowarah (Joseph); plus 14 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM Thursday, May 10, at Davie Burial & Cremation Chapel on S. Main Street in Lexington. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, May 11, at Sonlight Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Steed officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
