Luther William “Bill” Gobble, a member of “The Greatest Generation” and a World War II Veteran, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 14, 2018, from Alston Brook Nursing Home in Lexington at the age of 94. Mr. Gobble was a native of Davidson County, born July 31, 1923, the son of the late Wesley Anderson Gobble and Irene Turner Gobble. He was the widower of the late Jessie Veigh Cope Gobble who passed away in 2011. They had been married for 64 years at the time of her passing.

Mr. Gobble attended Davidson County Schools prior to entering the United States Army to serve during World War II. He later had a career with Heritage Furniture where he retired as a Finishing Supervisor at the Mocksville plant after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Fork Baptist Church of Mocksville. He was a Mason and a member of Lexington Lodge 473.

His memory will be cherished by one son, Gary Gobble and wife, Karen, of Lexington; two grandchildren, Ryan Gobble (Anna) and Elizabeth Rummage (Brian) of Lexington; plus four great grandchildren: Jacob and Harrison Gobble and William and Wesley Rummage. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow and Connie Gobble, and two sisters, Louise Snyder and Melba Yarborough.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, May 18, at Second Presbyterian Church of Lexington with Rev. Brian Rummage officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Davidson County Honor Guard and the NC National Guard Honors Team.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Alston Brook, Hospice of Davidson County, and the Life Center of Davidson County for their attentive and compassionate care of Mr. Gobble during his illness.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered to the Life Center of Davidson County, 601 West Center Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
