James Edward Powell, 77, passed away early Monday morning, September 17, 2018, at his home with loved ones by his side. He was a native of Davidson County, born June 19, 1941, the son to the late Mr. Lester Powell and Mrs. Lillian Beatrice Hutchins Powell. He is preceded in death by Mary Jane Phelps Powell, a wife of many years; two infant sisters; a son, James Lester Powell; two brothers, Jacob Powell and Carlton Powell. He attended Reeds School. He retired in the Furniture Industry from Dixie Furniture/ Carolina Panel Shop, where he was a supervisor for more than thirty years. Those left to cherish his memories are a son, Randy Powell from Lexington; two daughters, Alisa M. Day from Arcadia and Lonra Jane Hendrix (Mickey) from Lexington; five grandchildren, Leann, Dawn, Sam, Daniel, and Brandi; and nine great grandchildren. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Galilee Baptist Church in Lexington. A Celebration of Life Service will start at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Galilee Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wade Powell and Herman Powell officiating. Interment will follow immediately after at Linwood United Methodist Church Cemetery. Davie Burial & Cremation of Lexington will be serving the family.
