Richard Ray Thornton, 74, of Lexington, passed away at Hinkle Hospice House, Sunday, February 25, 2018. A native of Radford, VA, he was born September 5, 1943, the son of the late John Wesley Davis and Virginia Gertrude Estese Davis.
Mr. Thornton attended Cecil School. He retired from the City of Lexington after 31 years of service.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Brenda Gail Livengood Thornton; one son, Perry R. Thornton of Lexington; step-son, Gene Queen Jr. (Angel) of Lexington; one step-daughter, Tracy Myers of Lexington; special cousin, Jack Quesenbury (Cheryl) of Radford, VA; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Summer and Hannah Thornton, Brittany, Allison and Taylor Stacy, Andrew and Cameron Queen and Brett Myers and two great grandchildren, Audrey Kate Leonard and Lily Grace Stacy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert A. Thornton.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends, Wednesday, February 28 from 6:30 PM-8:30 PM in the chapel of Davie Burial & Cremation Service of Lexington.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be sent to Hospice of Davidson County.
