George William “G.W.” Atkins, 73, passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House, Tuesday, December 26, 2017. A native of Surry County, he was born March 24, 1944, the son of the late Lacey Lincoln Atkins and Beulah Elizabeth Johnson Atkins Cain. He graduated from Mount Airy High School and was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Welcome Church of God.

Remaining to cherish his memory is his wife of 35 years, Rose Ann (Thomas) Atkins; sons, Bradley Atkins (Ellie) of Richmond, VA, David Atkins (Sherry) of Mount Airy; step-sons, Jeff Thomas (Melaney) and Steven Thomas (Leigh) both of Clemmons; daughters, Cindy Holcomb of Winston-Salem, Amy Marshall (Jerry) of Ararat, VA; step-daughters, Robin Petus (Joey) of Hickory and Kim Krol of Lexington; one sister, Nelda Stanley (Bobby) of Dobson; seven grandchildren; nine great –grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jo Phillips and Geraldine Shelton.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 30, at Welcome Church of God (4844 Old US Hwy 52, Welcome, NC 27295). The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Winston-Salem. Davie Burial & Cremation Service of Lexington is serving the Atkins family.
